BONNIE DA ROCHA
I was born in Los Angeles, and grew up in Santa Monica, California.
I now live in Orange County. My garden is full of huge, rare and
lethal cacti. I have a 37 year-old parrot. He is a magnificent
animal.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Much of my work focuses on isolation, self-imposed boundaries
and imaginary fears. I create images that are symbolic of the
struggles against inactivity and submission. I believe it is important
to acknowledge the dark side as a valid part of our psyches. To
deny this aspect is to never know the entire truth. We all cast
a shadow.
The human being is an endless source of inspiration to me. The
structure, shapes and motion of the organic form are a visual
paradise.
MEDIA
I work in a variety of media using whatever suits the concept
and mood of the piece. This approach allows me freedom to experiment
and be receptive to intuitive processes. I love to draw. I keep
a sketchbook and visually record my ideas and observations. Many
of my paintings originated from these sketchbooks/ journals.
CURRENT
I paint and draw commissioned work for clients who want a representation
of a unique vision or experience they've had. I just completed
four books which include my drawings, paintings, prints and photography.
I show my work in local (Orange County) galleries. I'm also working
on a public art project.
